Nanfeng Guzao Kiln
Shiwan Nanfeng Guzao Kiln is a living testimony of the rich and diverse pottery and porcelain heritage of Foshan, Guangdong Province, China, spanning over six centuries of history and artistry. The kiln is one of the oldest and best preserved wood-fired dragon kilns in the world, dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The dragon kiln is a long and narrow structure that resembles a dragon’s body, with a fire mouth at the head and a chimney at the tail. The kiln can reach temperatures of up to 1300 degrees Celsius, creating a variety of glazes and effects on the pottery. Nanfeng Guzao Kiln is still in operation today, producing traditional Shiwan pottery with unique colors and shapes. Shiwan Nanfeng Guzao Kiln is a national treasure and a living fossil of pottery and porcelain culture.
