Ripe Puerh Tea
Shu Puerh tea, also known as ripe Puerh or cooked Puerh, is a type of fermented tea that originates from Yunnan Province, China. This tea is known for its dark, rich flavor and its health benefits.
The production of Shu Puerh involves a unique process called ‘wet piling’, which is a form of microbial fermentation. This process is applied after the tea leaves have been sufficiently dried and rolled. The tea leaves are piled up, and the temperatures increase significantly inside these piles, leading to the ‘cooking’ of the tea leaves. This fermentation process transforms the raw Puer tea into a new tea with a different character, resulting in a darker, smoother tea with an entirely different flavor profile from raw Puer.
