Raw Puerh Tea
Sheng Puerh tea, also known as raw Puerh or unripe Puerh, is a type of naturally fermented tea that originates from Yunnan Province, China. Unlike Shu Puerh, which undergoes an artificial fermentation process, Sheng Puerh is fermented naturally over a long aging period.
The production of Sheng Puerh involves harvesting leaves from large-leaf Assamica tea trees. The leaves are lightly steamed and then usually pressed into bing cha (disc-shaped “cakes” of tea) and wrapped with rice paper. Sometimes they’re left loose or pressed into other shapes. This tea must be aged for at least 10 years before they are considered "drinkable".
